This rather rare lead antimony sulfosalt was named for Dr. Giuseppe Scaini (1906-1988), an engineer and skillful investigator of systematic and Italian mineralogy. There are only about three localities in the world where this mineral is found, i.e., the Type Locality in Italy, and two localities in Slovakia. This piece is from the Ludovít Mine, which only produced a few species. This piece features compacted grey "fibers" of scainiite on matrix.
